Data Access Training from the Census Bureau

The University of Mary Washington Small Business Development Center encourages the small business and economic development community to attend the Data Access Training to learn how to use Census Bureau Data for marketing and small business development research.

Ally Burleson-Gibson, Data Dissemination Specialist for the Census Bureau, will join us at the University of Mary Washington Center for      Economic Development on May 20, 2014 for two sessions addressing the resources available through the Census Bureau.

Session 1:  Entrepreneurial Presentation (9:00am – 10:30am).  This session will cover:

  • Census Bureau resources
  • NAICS codes—what they are and how to use them to for research
  • Business patterns
  • Demographic research

Session 2:  The ‘Data Miners’ Presentation (10:30am – 12:00pm) focusing on Local Employment Dynamics (LED).  This session will  cover how to find information on:

  • Demographic information on workers, including family size, income levels, and education levels
  • Information on local business
  • Information on commuting patterns
